Serenity Wellbeing Gardens is a West Yorkshire CIC using horticultural therapy to improve mental health, wellbeing and social connection. Its nature-based programmes support people experiencing challenges such as anxiety, addiction recovery, bereavement, loneliness and low confidence.
After formally becoming a CIC in early 2025, Serenity wanted to strengthen its governance, clarify its purpose and build long‑term sustainability. Futurekraft supported the organisation through this early growth stage to ensure a solid foundation for expansion and impact.
What was needed
Transitioning from a sole trader to a CIC, Serenity required support to:
• Refine its mission, vision and theory of change
• Understand governance, board roles and legal responsibilities
• Develop a compelling case for support
• Create practical business planning and budgeting tools
• Secure grant funding for project delivery
What was achieved
Over six months, Futurekraft helped Serenity develop a clear organisational identity, improve governance and financial planning, and strengthen its fundraising approach.
This resulted in successful grant awards enabling delivery of therapeutic gardening projects across West Yorkshire, including Gardening for Grief, community wellbeing sessions, projects for older people and the creation of a new community garden from a disused site.
Serenity is now a more confident and resilient CIC, with the structures, clarity and funding needed to grow its reach and deepen its social impact.
