Stride UK, founded by Diane Modahl MBE, is a charity that uses sport as a powerful catalyst for change. The organisation works with around 800 young people from the most deprived areas of Greater Manchester, offering weekly programmes that combine sport, education, mentoring and leadership training. These initiatives are designed to support the most vulnerable young people in inner-city communities and help them overcome multiple barriers to success.
In 2015, Stride UK approached Futurekraft with a need to strengthen their fundraising capacity. Initially, Futurekraft provided support on an ad hoc basis, but as the charity grew and faced significant challenges—including the COVID-19 pandemic, programme development requirements and key leadership transitions—Futurekraft became an integral part of the Stride team. The relationship evolved into a strategic partnership focused on ensuring the charity’s sustainability and growth.
Futurekraft’s approach has been comprehensive and tailored to Stride UK’s needs. We have provided expertise in budgeting and financial planning, developed systems for impact measurement to demonstrate outcomes, and developed consultation tools and strategic advice to guide organisational decisions. We also took responsibility for bid writing and tender submissions, while shaping a robust funding strategy that aligned with Stride UK’s objectives. This combination of practical support and sector insight enabled Stride UK to position itself effectively for long-term success.
The results of this collaboration have been transformative. Over the years, Futurekraft has helped Stride UK secure more than £1.5 million in grant funding, ensuring the continued delivery and development of its programmes. This financial stability has allowed Stride UK to maintain its vital work with young people and expand its reach during times of growth and challenge.
Reflecting on the partnership, Bex Wilson-Gill from Stride UK shared:
“Stride has worked with Futurekraft for the past 10 years, supporting our foundation through growth, challenge and change. Working alongside Shelley has been a privilege. Her knowledge is vast and the experience she has in the charity sector is second to none. What sets her apart is the relationship she builds with the organisation to ensure funding suits our objectives and how we can position ourselves in the best way possible for success and sustainability.”
